Capoeira...Capoeira!

CAPOEIRA POEM

Capoeira-
Under a wonderful bright blue sky
A circle of people
All singing in Portuguese.
The exotic sound of
Bells, bongos, rasps
Tambourines and a berimbau
All in harmony.
It is a Brazilian symphony.
A multicultural group
Standing on warm sand
In front of the ocean water.
The oceans breeze
Cools them as they play.
In the center of the circle
Two people are kicking and flipping
Never making contact with each other
But only centimeters away.
They dodge and attack.
Each trying to outwit the other.
Is it fighting? Is it dancing?
Is it play? Or is it sport?
It is all combined
It is Capoeira.

Be sure to send me suggestions for the next In Depth segment.
